Parker No. 20 Lucky Curve Fountain Pen, US, ca. 1905, mottled red and black hard rubber with slip cap, eyedropper fill – fills only from a bottle. Clear barrel imprint reads: George S Parker Fountain Pen, Janesville Wis USA, Pat Jan 9, 94 June 28 98, Jan 8 05, Jun 6 05 with Lucky Curve Banner in center. Parker 14KT gold nib is marked: Parker Lucky Curve Pen 2, keyhole vent, flexible fine point, lucky curve is intact. Measures 5 5/8 inches long. The color is strangely oxidized! Some of the black is crisp and shiny, other parts are turning brown, red has good color. No cap lip cracks, no damage, only the color issue noted above. A nice early Parker Lucky Curve in very good condition.

Parker No. 16 Jack Knife Safety Fountain Pen, US, ca. 1915, black hard rubber with gold fill Heath filigree. Ringtop. Button fill – fills only from a bottle. Parker 14KT gold nib is marked: Parker Lucky Curve Pen, heart shaped vent hole, very flexible medium to broad point. Measures 4 5/8 inches long. Barrel filigree marked at top edge: Parker Fountain Pen Pat 6-30-91 1-3-05. Indicia is not engraved. Black hard rubber is just barely oxidized, all still black, but not quite as shiny as it should be, especially in the filigree areas. Just a hint of brassing at high points of filigree. Very good condition. 		$500

Parker Duofold Desk Set - it's a beauty! Onyx base in primarily white and caramel colors with just a hint of grey in the background. Black socket with gold filled bands at top and bottom. Swivels 360 degrees. Includes Duofold Desk Fountain Pen in Red Permanite (yes, it's orange), black taper. The nib is older than the pen and we left it just as it was because it's a great nib! Parker 14KT nib is marked: Parker Lucky Curve P3X. Very flexible italic about 1.0mm at rest, wider when flexed. Definitely falls in that "wet noodle flex" category! Base measures 3 x 4.5 inches. Pen is 7.25 inches long. Base is in excellent condition, no chips or nicks. Desk pen has some light toothmarks at the taper end and otherwise is in very good condition. 		$300

Parker Vacumatic Pencil, date code 1943, golden brown-reddish pearl stripes, This is an odd brown striped color, I've had one other in the past, if you didn't hold it up to the common brown striped, you may not notice. But this brown has reddish hues in the pattern. Gold filled trim, //\\//\\ art deco engraved cap band, black cap jewel. Clip is match to blue diamond style FP clip. Parker 51 Fountain Pen and Mechanical Pencil Set box is correct, but not original to set and shows some wear. The FP and MP set, however, is in excellent condition! ca. 1945 India black barrels, lustraloy caps with Jeweler's Band cap engraving, blue diamond clips are white metal, probably sterling silver, but not marked. This was fairly common during the war years. Parker 14KT gold hooded nib in fine point. Pencil is twist activated and uses 0.9mm diameter leads. 		$225

Fountain Pen has octanium hooded nib in firm medium point, aerometric fill – fills only from a bottle, Original pli-glass sac is lightly stained, but in good working order. Measures 5 3/8 inches long. Liquid Lead Pencil measures 5 inches long. Note that Liquid Lead refills are no longer available, the pencil is in excellent condition, but is not in writing order! Cream colored clamshell box with moiré lining in bottom section and smooth satin lining inside lid marked Parker “51”. Very good condition. 		$95

PARKER VP

VPs were not made for long, they are sort of a compilation of several Parkers - a predecessor to the 75, they incorporate a similar nib and the adjustable section, the pseudo-aerometric filling system of the 51s and a look easily confused with a 61 until you remove the cap and see the open style instead of hooded nib!

The VP has an adjustable section with markings so you can turn the nib section to comfortably fit your hand, and an aerometric type filler using a clear acrylic insert instead of the rubber sac used in the 51 and 21 series pens.

Parker 45 Fountain Pens have been a mainstay of the Parker line since the late 1960s and are still made today for the UK market. Well made, reasonably priced and all around good writers, the Parker 45 makes a great pen for everyday use or for someone just getting started with fountain pens.

Refilling your
Vintage Mechanical Pencils

Most mechanical pencils made before the late 1960s and some even after that are refilled by feeding lead in from the Point End. Those that feed from the barrel (below the eraser) are a fairly modern invention! Don't be fooled by leads in the barrel, in older pencils, that was simply a space to store a few extra leads, but that's it - just storage. As always with vintage writing instruments, exceptions will crop up!

The instruction below are from a Sheaffer package insert, but apply to most older mechanical pencils.
