Bernier Stationery is hand marbled, the old fashioned way. The papers used for these items are each unique and hand made for us in Cedar Rapids, Iowa by a local artist.

Marbling is an ancient craft, begun in 12th Century Japan. It then traveled into Persia, Europe and America. In Turkey, it is still called "Ebru" or "Cloud Art".

The process involved in hand marbling has essentially remained the same over time. It begins with a pan of thickened water. Paint colors are dropped onto the water where they float and spread. Combs are pulled through the liquid to make a design and a sheet of paper is laid onto the surface. When pulled off, the painted design has transferred itself onto the paper. The sheet is hung to dry and the marbler returns to the pan to repeat the process. As the basic medium is water, the marbler has some, but not total, control and no two papers are ever exactly alike. There is always an element of surprise.

Bernier Marbled Notecards

Each packet of notecards contains 6 assorted foldover notecards in 3 different sizes and translucent clear envelopes so the beautiful designs are always in view. Each card is hand marbled and unique.

Assortment includes: Two 6 3/8 x 4.5 inch cards and envelopes, Two 5 x 3.5 inch cards and envelopes and two 3.5 x 2 inch gift cards and envelopes.

Bernier Marbled Memo Tablets

Each tablet contains an assortment of solid colored sheets for scribbling your notes, marbled covers are attached by hand with coordinated glass beads and colored string. Tablets measure 2.5 x 5 inches. Colors and patterns are different on each tablet, please allow us to select a unique Memo Tablet for you.
